Welcome to JR Vance Music!

My musical journey began at the young age of 6, when Santa gifted me a Roy Rogers guitar and a Smoky the Bear hat. My earliest musical influences were Elvis, 50s music and of course, classic country.

I started performing for family and friends, drawn to the lyrics and the stories told through song.
Formal guitar lessons began in my teens, initially with an acoustic before switching to electric with my second teacher, Neil. He introduced me to rock and my favorite band, Led Zeppelin. Neil taught me many advanced techniques.

My dad, seeing my passion, surprised me with a trip to NYC. To Music Row, and Manny’s Music Store, where he bought my first amp and gear. I was head in the clouds excited!

My first live performance was in high school, on stage, in a packed/sold out house. My friend Paul and I played “Stairway to Heaven” to thunderous applause and a standing ovation. An adrenaline rush that I will never forget.

I started my first band in high school with other musician friends. We called ourselves “Tora Tora” and practiced in my basement.

After a hiatus during college, although still discovering new music and sounds, I rediscovered my passion for music in my 40s, thanks to my parents’ gift of a beautiful Ibanez acoustic-electric guitar. Meeting my sister-in-law’s boyfriend, Shawn, a fellow musician, and kindred spirit, rekindled my drive. We jammed together, and I began playing daily. 

Eventually I met my future bandmates, Jay Adcock(drums) and Eamon(lead guitar and fiddle) through mutual friends in the music scene. Our band, Bourbon’s Son, was born, playing open mics and gigs throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. One memorable show was at the infamous “John and Peters” in PA. Blessed to have played on the same stage as so many talented musicians. Life’s challenges led to the band’s breakup and my move to Virginia where I started “The J. Ronny Show” on Facebook during the pandemic.
 

As one chapter ends, they say another begins and I am ready. Nashville is calling me, and I must heed her call. Onward on this wonderfully exciting musical journey. 

Thankful to God for this life He has provided me.
